Summer Courses at Another College

Approval for Summer Physics Courses

This form is required for NJIT students who plan to take a Physics course at another college or institution during the summer.

IMPORTANT POLICIES

  • All Physics courses and labs must be taken in person.
    Remote or online courses/labs will NOT be accepted for transfer credit.
  • Prior approval is REQUIRED before registering at another institution.
  • Transfer credit will be granted only for grades of C or higher.
  • Any course(s) taken and grade(s) received at Rutgers-Newark, Essex County College, and RBHS will be posted on the NJIT transcript.

STEPS TO FOLLOW

  1. Complete the Approval Form (link above).
  2. Submit the completed form to: Cindy Harden
    cindy.montalvo-harden@njit.edu
  3. The form will be reviewed by the Physics Department Chair or Transfer Coordinator.
  4. Once approved, the form will be forwarded to the Registrar’s Office (student will be cc’d).
  5. After final approval, the Registrar’s Office will return the fully approved form to the student.

Note: Students may need the approved form to register at the other institution.

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Confirm that the course is offered at the other institution.
  • Ensure all Physics courses and labs are taken in person and not online or remote.
    Remote or online courses/labs will NOT be accepted for transfer credit.
  • Work with the Physics Office to determine the correct course equivalency.
  • Consult your academic advisor to confirm the course meets degree requirements.

Important: The Physics Department is not responsible if a student selects an incorrect course or lab.

FALL / SPRING RESTRICTIONS

Students are NOT permitted to take Physics courses at another institution during the Fall or Spring semesters, except under special circumstances approved by the Physics Department Chair.

Matriculated NJIT students may cross-register at the following institutions during the Fall and Spring semesters only. Students must complete a cross registration form which can be found at the following link: Cross-Registration Forms

  • Rutgers–Newark
  • Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS)
  • Essex County College

IMPORTANT NOTE: Students who wish to take a course at these institutions during the summer must complete the Approval Form (link above). Grades earned at these institutions will be posted on the NJIT transcript.
